Developing an International Network of Coaching
Excellence:
We are very proud to be associated with the
following international swim and triathlon coaches. Whilst we
go by the motto of being your "Moblie Swimming BIO-Mechanics",
obviously its not possible to be everywhere all at the same
time. Rather than franchising the Swim Smooth brand (which we
believe would 'dilute' one of our key philosophies
of individualization), we prefer to associate ourselves
with coaches with whom we have worked with directly in the past
and can vouch for their ability. These coaches have offered
their time and knowledge at one or more of the Swim
Smooth Clinics. They have demonstrated both great appreciaton
for technical detail and refinement of the stroke, but furthermore,
an innate ability to communicate this knowledge in a form understandable
by those swimmers who have worked with them. Each coach has
his / her own individual approach to teaching the freestyle
stroke, but all agree with the fundamental aspects as laid down
by Swim Smooth.
Whilst some may think that the Swim
Smooth methodology is "overly simplistic"
in approach, we strongly believe that this approach is our key
to success with our swimmers. Read some of the testimonials
from these swimmers and you'll see what we mean!
Stuart
Ashley, Bath, UK.
Stuart was a former training buddy of Paul's
whilst they both were studying and training at the University
of Bath, UK. Stuart is still based down at the University of
Bath's excellent Sports Training Village facility and is working
closely with Head Swim Coach Kim Swanwick. Stuart has brought
a wealth of knowledge to all six of the UK Swim Smooth Clinics
that he has coached at to date. We are proud to be associated
with Stuart and his passion for triathlon. Here's a little more
about him:
Qualifications:
Coach Education and
Sport Science, University of Bath
Exercise Science, Manchester.
UKCC Coach Education
BTA Level 2 Coach (pending)
ASA qualified coach.
Represented Great Britain at World and European
championships as an elite junior athlete. Spent most of his
triathlon career under the guidance of world class coach, Chris
Jones, who inspired him into the coaching field. Has a strong
interest into the field of exercise physiology, which fits with
his belief that coaching practice should be based on sound science,
and would like to undertake a postgraduate research post in
this field in the near future. Currently training towards achieving
his life long ambition of making an elite podium at an Ironman
event and currently scheduled for Ironman France 2008.
Works with a wide range of abilities,
ranging from complete beginners, world age-group triathlon champions
and potential Beijing medalists. First started working with
swimmers as a high school student almost 9 years ago and continues
to work within the University of Bath high performance swim
programme. Has also coached athletics where he has assisted
with world class potential race walkers and marathon runners;
the aim to find some promising juniors who have the potential
to make the 2012 london games!

Graham
Williams, Kent, UK.
Graham first worked with Swim Smooth at the
London Clinic in March 2006. Graham is an excellent coach who
"tells it like it is" and we respect him for this
honest and open approach to his swimming. Here are some more
details about Graham:
Graham's own Philosophy on swim teaching
and instruction.
"I believe that every person is unique in his or her
aims and requirements and no one technique is generic for all.
The stroke basics are the same and all governed by the same
laws of physics but the teaching must be tailored to the individual.
In the same way just because some techniques are old that does
not mean they still do not have a role, but the instructor should
always be looking for, and evaluating new ideas and techniques
to offer the widest options for the swimmer. Open water specifics
for the triathlon swim are a skill that needs to be included
and taught and is often overlooked by conventional swim coaches.
This is where a triathlon-experienced coaching system can, and
does, have a major advantage for the open water swim section
and today's Triathlete."
