Harry Wiltshire, Bath, U.K.

With a record of being one of the top-3 athletes into T1 in every race over the last 3 years, including every major ITU Cup Race he has competed in, Harry Wiltshire is undoubtedly one of THE best elite triathlon swimmers in the world right now. His enthusiasm for triathlon and his truly aggresive racing nature makes him a must-see at all the major international triathlon events.

Harry Says:

"Paul was my first triathlon coach, his enthusiastic and fun style was largely responsible for getting me into the sport. Paul’s refreshing approach coupled with his impressive technical knowledge and most importantly his ability to explain things clearly and simply make him the best swim stroke coach that I have worked with."

Harry was Paul's first ever coached athlete back in 1999, and whilst Harry is now training under the guidance of legendary Australian coach Brett Sutton in Leysin, Switzerland, the two still keep in regular contact. Paul is extremely proud to have been an influence in Harry's early competitive days and wishes him all the best for the future.

Paul Says:

"This guy is going places for sure, and has every possibility of qualifying for the 2008 or 2012 Olympic Games. Always leading from the gun, Harry is a pure pleasure to watch compete and as a sponsor I would encourage you to contact Harry asap to get your logo emblazoned on his race kit! Contact Harry on info@triharry.co.uk."

Bex Rimmington, Melton Mowbray, U.K.

Paul had the privilege of taking Becky Rimmington (or "Bex") for a swim stroke correction session in October in the home of the Pork Pie, Melton Mowbray. Despite being an 18:30 1500m freestyle swimmer with a wealth of talent and accomplishment in her first full season's racing in 2005, Paul was able to do some valuable work with Bex (specifically on her catch and pull through phase and general body positioning / leg kick) which will hopefully serve her well for the 2006/7 season. Bex is destined for good things in 2006, and if you have the resources to sponsor this athlete, please email her directly. Bex is currently being coached by Richard Jones, Welsh International Triathlete turned Coach. We at Swim Smooth would like to wish her the very best of success for 2006/7! Go Bex!

Karen Wynne, Perth, Australia.

Karen was awarded our December's star performer prize in 2005 for a truly great race at the Busselton Ironman event (her first Ironman), Western Australia on the 27th November 2005. She's about to line-up for this year's event too! A self-confessed Super Gran, Karen really is an inspiration to many people around her who really admire her get-up and go attitude. Paul first had the privilege of meeting Karen during one of his Women in Action Groups for swimming (affectionately named W.A.G) and has been coaching Karen throughout 2005 with a structured Half and Full Ironman program. Here's to another great year, Karen!

All smiles for the camera at this year's Busselton Half Ironman event!

Janet Musker, Perth, Australia.

Unfortunately Paul only met Janet about two months before the Swim Smooth Team left Australia for the UK back in May 2005. He says "unfortunately" because Janet really is one of those people who is a joy to coach and has tremendous enthusiasm for the sport. Via email correspondence, the two worked together to devise a program for the 2005 Noosa Olympic Distance Triathlon in QLD, Australia. Janet's goal was to get around the course, her first triathlon, in as close to 3 hours as possible. Imagine her delight and Paul's when she came through the tough conditions in just 2:46 - a great start to a promising future in triathlon. Well done Janet! Janet is now focusing on the Port MacQuarie Ironman in April 2007.

Richard Kay, Liverpool, U.K.

Paul met Liverpool based Richard in October 2005 at the Merseyside Swim Smooth Clinic organsied by the Mersey TRI club. Having come from a very competitive swim background competing for the City of Liverpool, Paul was initially concerned that what he'd be showing the rest of the squad would be "old hat" for Richard and of limited value. However, Richard says he got a great deal out of the course and only wished he had gone through some of the information Paul provided as a junior. Richard also says that he would have been helped tremendously by being stretched on a rack to a height of 6'6"! A great swimmer with superb efficiency, Richard is currently following the Advanced Sessions from the Swim Smooth Bonus CD-ROM (included in the DVD boxset) to try and finally nudge himself under 20 mins for 1500m in the pool - we wish him the best of luck with this and his other triathlon aspirations this year!

Lawrence Wynne, Perth, Australia.

Husband to Karen, and some would mock long suffering (though judging by Lawrence's Hobbies below this could be a two-way thing), Lawrence excels as a great master's road cycling expert who is gradually coming around to the idea of competing regularly in triathlon too. In May 2005 when a group called the Stadium Half Ironman group (S.H.I.M), led by Paul, were training up for the Busselton Half Ironman, Lawrence earnt his nickname of Sly Dog for his seemingly amazing ability to avoid swim and run training sessions and yet still be amazingly fit and proficient at both his "weaker" disciplines. After a solid performance at his first Ironman in Busselton this year and 8th in his age-group, Lawrence has already highlighted some strong ambitions to go quite a bit higher next year - we wish him the best of luck with this!

Nicola Holmes, Perth, Australia.

"Perhaps one day you'll be able to injure them (Nicola and her brother Stephen) in person again rather than over the internet" were the "humorous" words from Nic's Dad just recently regarding yet another unfortunate injury that has plagued the start of Nic's promising triathlon career. This winter we've had it all...tripping over a shoe lace, rolling her ankle on a honky nut, and just recently coming off her bike and badly knocking her hip in the process. Nic would say she was "born in the water", with a brilliant history as a pool swimmer having trialled-out for the 2004 Australian Olympic Games Team; however, we are hoping that once the injuries are finally behind her, Nic will really come to the forefront in a sport which she shows amazing aptitude for, triathlon. Anyone wishing to sponsor this bright young star should email her directly. She's going to be good!

Well done Nic for completing the Rottnest 22km Channel Swim on the 21st February 2006 - read her report here!

Nic leading out the swim in the Busselton Half Ironman Teams Event this year. Whats even more amazing was that she was diagnosed as having pneumonia straight after this event!

James Ramsay, Perth, Australia.

James "Rambo" Ramsay, is part man, part machine. An adonis of a man, with perfect physical stature he woos the ladies with his impressive running finesse. Humour aside, James is another great athlete to coach and has an amazing strength of character and resilience to get him through the toughest of conditions...making him ideally suited towards the longer distance triathlons. Despite being built like the proverbial brick toilet shed, this guy cruised home to a very impressive debut Half Ironman time of 4:48 in Busselton this May and in doing so qualified for the Australian Ironman Championships in April '06 in Port MacQuarie, QLD. James is currently training hard for this race, fitting in training sessions between feeding the goldfish at Seaworld. 'On yer mate!

A simply brilliant run at this year's Half Ironman in Busselton!

Clinton Doak, Perth, Australia.

Like Janet, Paul had only just met Clinton before he left for the UK in May this year. A very amiable nature makes Clinton a real pleasure to coach as well. Despite many problems with his calf muscles in the past, Clinton came good at the Busselton Half Ironman in May this year and finished just a shade over 5hrs and in doing so qualified for his first Full Ironman in Port MacQuarie '06. With the help of a program from Paul, Clinton is now about to line up for the 2006 Busselton Ironman. Here's to a great race Clint!

Jamie O'Bank, Manchester, U.K.

The Swim Smooth Team first met Jamie at the Manchester Swim Smooth Clinic in October this year. After some lengthy discussions about appropriate training programs geared around a first Ironman "assault", Jamie asked us to construct a program for him for the 2006 Austria Ironman in July. This race is reputed to be one of the fastest Ironman courses in the world and many state that this is due to the hilly cycle course which requires the rider to continuously change position and hence stretch tight muscles in the process. Jamie is currently trying to work in an ongoing physio rehab program for some glute and lower back issues and we wish him the very best of luck for his Austrian Ironman debut!
