Dear swimmer,

I'm very proud to say that today Swim Smooth is the leading swimming company in the world thanks to our unerring focus on developing great coaching methods, our unique and innovative tools (such as our Mr Smooth animation), and a truly individual approach to coaching swimmers. This is why the British Triathlon Federation chose us as their experts to re-write the swimming curriculum for all triathlon coaches in the UK.

It has been my dream for many years to give any swimmer access to Swim Smooth coaching with a network of talented and highly skilled coaches teaching our methods. That goal has finally been realised and today we are adding three more coaches to our Certified Coach Program with seven full-time professional coaches in the UK and one in Prague.

Each individual is an experienced and knowledgeable swim coach in their own right but in addition has studied and practised with Swim Smooth for over 12 months including special intensive training with myself at our home-base in Perth, Australia. The end result is a talented set of coaches with all the skills, experience and knowledge to dramatically improve your individual swimming whatever level you are currently at!

Developing Open Water Coaching Skills In Perth

Becoming a Swim Smooth Coach is quite a process! All interested coaches are required to apply for and attend our three day Coach Education Course which allows us to meet and get to know them. Of the 50 coaches who made the courses in 2010/11 we hand picked the best six candidates to train for a year and become Swim Smooth Coaches.

Training has included special study, assessments and logging hundreds of squad coaching, open water swimming and video analysis hours. Of course the highlight is a special trip out to Swim Smooth's homebase in Perth, Australia for two weeks of intensive training with Paul Newsome and the other homebase coaches.

All this adds up to a big commitment on their behalf and a lot of preparation and training! Each coach has an extensive background in swimming or triathlon coaching in their own right but with Swim Smooth they have taken their abilites to the highest level.

Most swimming coaches have one ideal stroke in mind and try and move everyone towards it. This 'ideal stroke' is normally based on how some very tall and flexible male elite swimmers swim over short distances at the Olympics.

The flaw in this approach is that this stroke style does not suit everybody and trying to emulate it may well make you less efficient and slower as a result.

Not here at Swim Smooth. We believe in a much more individual approach to swimming based on your physical make-up, your swimming background, your goals and even your personality.

This makes our coaching much more powerful and will help shift you off a plateau you might be on.

At this time Swim Smooth only have Certified Coaches available in the UK. Because of our commitment to the very highest level of coaching, we ask for your patience while we careful train other coaches around the world. Subscribe to our blog www.feelforthewater.com and you'll be among the first to hear as coaches become certified in other counties.

Becoming A Swim Smooth Certified Coach

If you are an enthusiastic and passionate swimming or triathlon coach, and are interested in becoming a Swim Smooth Coach, then a good first step is to introduce yourself to us by joining our Coaches Network (here).

In due course you will need to apply to attend our three day Coach Education Course which we will announce through the Coaches Network. If after meeting you on the course we feel you are the right individual to become a Swim Smooth Coach then we will invite you to go on and commence full training which normally takes around a year. Attending the Coach Education Course does not carry any qualifications in itself.

Swim Smooth are very proud to have been selected as sole swimming coaching consultants to British Triathlon. In the relationship we work closely with British Triathlon to develop their Swimming Coach Education Programmes and using our expertise have re-written the Level 1, 2 and 3 training curriculums which every triathlon coach in the UK must follow. This ensures our highest standards of swim coaching are taught to all British Triathlon coaches.

Swim Smooth are very excited about this new relationship. Coach development is a major passion of ours and we very much look forward to sharing our expertise in stroke correction, training programme development and open water swimming directly with the UK's coaching community.
