Paul's Coaching "Character" References:
Paul's
coaching techniques, philosophies and apparent knowledge are outstanding.
His video analysis on deck alone is remarkable. I have seen and
witnessed many of the world's best coaches; there is no doubt
that Paul will become one of them. His rapport with clients
and children is only one thing that set him apart.
Bill Kirby OAM, Olympic Gold Medallist and
proprietor of the Kirby-Swim swim school in Claremont.
Coaching and athletic achievements aside,
Paul is a great guy who really cares about the athletes training
under him. Last night was a perfect example of this. In spite
of extreme leg muscle soreness sustained from the City-to-Surf
12km Running Race (he could hardly walk), and driving wind and
rain, Paul turned up to run us through over two hours of an outdoor
circuit-training program. Such dedication goes far beyond simple
remuneration, and can only be attributed to his love of the
sport and desire to transfer his wealth of knowledge to those
who he trains.
Ben Jarvis, former WA Young
Australian of the Year.
I believe Paul to be
in a different league with regards to other swim coaches that
I have trained under in the past. Paul is a unique as a coach
due to his tertiary qualifications in sports science. His understanding
of physiology allows him to coach and instruct at a far more scientific
level than any of my previous coaches. His enthusiasm and understanding
of sports psychology is highly motivating, these attributes
combined with his understanding of physiology and advanced training
techniques and his own elite level talent in the separate and
combined sports of triathlon makes him truly a great coach.
In one-on-one personal
swim training, Paul is able to explain the physics behind good
swim technique while being able to put his own personal experience
into the instruction. This is a formidable combination and will
ultimately raise the standard of swimming (especially in relation
to triathlon) in Australia.
Wayne Galea, Principle Process
Engineer for GRD Minproc and Triathlete.
Paul has an excellent
rapport with young people and those of all ages. Hi relaxed,
friendly but knowledgeable manner encourages students to ask
questions and feel comfortable about trying the sport of triathlon.
Paul has been extremely easy to work with and communicates in
a positive, non-threatening manner with both students and
colleagues alike.
Mel Farley, Triathlon Western
Australia's Secretary on behalf of the then-President Mark Batten.
I have witnessed the
changes to the Stadium Triathlon Club and to its members since
Paul joined and became STC's coach, taking the club and individuals
to new heights of achievement. Paul's ability to coach athletes
from the Junior and Novice ranks to the Elite levels in WA has
been unquestionable. With the dedication he has shown in promoting
the Sport and in coaching he is elevating depth of competition
and increasing enjoyment of the Sport by individuals.
Stuart Fuller, Chair of
Triathlon Australia's Technical Committee.
Whilst working at Challenge
Stadium, Paul was a genuine hard working young man and valuable
employee who went about his tasks efficiently and with initiative.
Mr. Robert Verboon, Centre
Manager, Challenge Stadium.
Paul is a very motivating
and encouraging coach and approaches his work with true professionalism.
Lauren Jones, Ironman Triathlete
and 20-24 Age Group Champion at the Busselton Ironman 2004.
Paul is a very friendly
and positive person who finds no difficulty meeting new
people and always greets them with a smile.
Pierre Sylvain, Health and
Fitness Coordinator, Challenge Stadium.
I have been extremely
impressed with Paul's professionalism, knowledge and advanced
training techniques, which have been designed specifically for
the sport of triathlon and look forward to working with him in
the foreseeable future.
Graeme Uren, Ironman Triathlete.
Finally, a huge thanks
to you for all your support and encouragement over the
past 3 years. You've been an absolutely awesome coach. I've especially
appreciated all your swim advice, i would've never dropped minutes
like I have done without it, thank you!
Keira Macfarlane.
Thanks again Paul! You're
an inspiration of what real genuine people should be!
Jeff Hanson
As a very "passive"
member of STC it is very apparent that you have been a great source
of energy and enthusiasm to many at the Stadium Tri Club.
Whilst I am not actively involved I can see what you have done
for others and your departure will be a great loss to the local
scene. We need guys like you.
Bob de la Motte.
With such a supportive,
energetic and inspirational coach, it's no wonder that the
SHIM group did so well in Busselton, I'm just sorry that my Forster
training program prevented me from being a part of what from all
accounts was a wonderfully friendly and supportive training group.
I think that it goes without saying that you will be sadly missed
by all and Stadium really won't be the same without you. With
all of your energy and enthusiasm, the world truly is your oyster
and I've no doubt that your path will be an incredible and enjoyable
adventure.
Melissa Cundy
Although I didn't train
with your squad much whilst I was in Perth last year you certainly
were very friendly and very enthusiastic. (I could go on
but no doubt you have been told that you are very good at coaching
but also as a person - something some coaches just can't do!)
No doubt Stadium Tri will miss you.
Christina Van der Hulst
Your wonderful coaching
style will be missed, especially by the WAG ladies!
Pat Hallet
What can we say? For
me Paul you have greatly enhanced my athletic experience,
both enjoyment and performance wise. You brought a much needed
breath of fresh air to the scene in Perth, and dragged
many of us to new levels. Thanks so much.
Shane Chaplin
Congratulation on a job
well done in Perth.
Darren Sergeant, Australian
Olympic Team Podiatrist
I just wanted to wish
you all the best and good luck for your soon to be adventure.
From what I have heard from both kids, parents, TWA you were
a fantastic coach and am sure you will be sorely missed by
all in WA Triathlon Community and also the local leisure centres.
Thanks for all your hard work with TRYstars in its first year.
Once again WA leads the way with the program enjoying great success
and the opportunities the clubs and TWA provides to the kids.
Shellee Duncan, Triathlon Australia
You have been terrific
- you always seem to have a smile on your face. But I am
sure you will excel wherever you are.
Elicia Kennedy, The West
Australian
Hi Paul - just wanted
to say thanks for taking the time and trouble to explain to everyone
for coming to your decision to move on - it is really very much
appreciated and although I for one, selfishly would love you to
stay, we know you have made the right decision - the world is
out there waiting for you!! I know we will still be seeing you
between now and the end of May but I would just like to say how
much I have got out of the Tuesday and Thursday "WAG"
sessions over the last 3 years. You have an amazing capacity
to make everything seem achievable - I can't tell you how
many times I have dragged myself along to swimming, particularly
on those cold, wet, winter days, feeling like swimming was the
last thing I felt like doing, but somehow after an hour of you
working your magic, I leave feeling like I can conquer the
world - or at the very least, the next triathlon!! You have
a wonderful gift Paul and it will take you anywhere (and hopefully
maybe back to Perth!). Of course we have all made some lasting
friendships too from the Tuesday and Thursday sessions - the friendship
and camaraderie (and occasional competitive rivalry!) always provides
a welcome boost to the day.
Liz Beeck
We think your attitude
as a coach is fantastic, you are very positive and encouraging
and are able to support all levels of athlete, which is a very
important skill.
Anna and David Price, Kalgoorlie
You are worth your
weight in gold!
