Years in Swimming / Triathlon:
28 years and 11 years respectively.
Michelle has always had a love for the water,
beginning swimming at the early age of four years. As a qualified
Life Guard, Michelle spent her summers working on the poolside
and the beach in Burlington, Ontario. Whilst Life Guarding Michelle
became competitive in the water at Life Guard competitions which
she then carried over to Varsity Water Polo at Brock University.
Lucky enough to have lived in beautiful Western
Australia for the last eight years, Michelle has developed her
open water skills and love for open water competition which
included a successful relay swim in the Rottnest
Channel Swim in 2004.
Michelle is currently registered to practice
with the Physiotherapy
Registration Board of Western Australia and the College
of Physiotherapists of Ontario.
Having a keen interest in sport, Michelle
has treated a variety of athletes and has developed a particular
interest in assessing and managing shoulder injuries. Michelle
has also completed a Clinical Pilates Level 1 & 2 qualification
through the Dance
Medicine Australia organisation led by Craig Phillips,
and believes that core strength and scapular stabilisation are
a vital link in preventing overuse injuries in swimmers.
As busy as she is, Michelle is also completing
her Level 1 accupuncture training in Toronto, Ontario at this
present time.
Michelle's knowledge, experience and guidance,
play a key role in the success of Swim Smooth's ability to work
with a wide range of ability levels. Her extensive anatomical
and biomechanical knowledge has had a huge influence on the
injury-prevention aspect of our Swim Smooth service. Michelle
will be on-hand at most of our Swim
Smooth Clinics to offer swimmer's her help and advice
where needed.
