Paul Newsome, Swim Smooth creator and coach:
Swim
Smooth: Clean-up Your Stroke! is the superb NEW swimming
DVD boxset specifically for triathletes and open water swimmers
which aims to provide a visual stimulus to help YOU improve
YOUR efficiency through the water.
Swim Smooth was created by Paul
Newsome B.Sc. (Hons), an accredited Level 2 British and Australian
Triathlon Senior Coach and former World
Class Potential Plan triathlete from the UK. Paul has
been fortunate enough to have travelled the world with his own
triathlon endeavours and has been personally coached by some
of the world's best triathlon coaches in Chris Jones (British
Triathlon Team Coach), and trained regularly with some of the
world's best athletes in Simon Lessing, Peter Robertson and
Michelle Dillon.
Paul's passion for swimming and
triathlon changed focus towards coaching following the completion
of his Sport
and Exercise Science degree course at the UK's premier
sporting university in Bath in 2001. After relocating to Perth,
Western Australia in 2001, Paul worked until May 2005 for the
Stadium Triathlon Club, the largest triathlon club in W.A with
over 300 members. During this time the majority of his coaching
was predominantly with clients in the pool seeking to improve
their swimming efficiency with the aid of Paul's video analysis
and stroke correction service. To date over 2,000 swimmers have
improved their swimming times by
5-15% using this service and it was during these sessions
that Paul realised that a lot of common mistakes could be simply
remedied if the swimmer had access to, and knowledge of, a comprehensive
list of swimming drills to help each aspect of their stroke.
In October 2004 Paul finally decided to compile all his knowledge
into a well structured and user friendly DVD boxset to help
swimmers and triathletes like you improve their economy and
get the times they deserve for the commitment they put into
their triathlon preparation. Swim Smooth was released on December
21st 2004 and has sold over 3,000 copies worldwide.
"...enhanced
swimming performance can be achieved through concentrating on
enjoyable technique sessions over arduous 'garbage-yardage"
Paul
Newsome.

Detail:
Paul has been swimming competitively since the age of 7yrs.
Paul was introduced to triathlon by a friend at a swimming club
in Huddersfield (UK) when he was nearly 17yrs old and hasn't
looked back since!
In
1997 Paul was accepted at the University of Bath to complete
the inaugural four year B.Sc.(Hons.) Sport and Exercise Science
degree course. During this time Paul's career in triathlon really
took off, winning the British University Championships in 2000
and finishing 11th at the World Student Games in Hungary the
same year.
In
December 2001, Paul even appeared on ITV's dating gameshow,
"BlindDate"
for their Christmas edition, wearing nothing more than a
Speedo skinsuit! This episode grossed a record 20 million viewers
in the UK. Luckily, Paul was out of the country at the time
of the broadcast!
Whilst
at University, Paul developed a passion for teaching and coaching
and found that he loved sharing his knowledge with friends and
training partners. In 2001, Paul graduated with a 2:1 B.Sc.
(Hons) Sport and Exercise Science degree and decided to leave
the UK for a year backpacking around the world. However, he
didn't get any further than Perth, Western Australia where he
was ultimately appointed as Head Coach to the State's largest
triathlon club, Stadium
TRI.
During his time coaching the Stadium Triathlon
Club, the majority of Paul's coaching was in the form of one-to-one
stroke correction and video analysis of some 2,000 clients to
date. His interest for this area led him to identify idiosyncrasies
of the freestyle stroke which are commonly weak in most triathletes
and those learning to swim. As such, Paul began to coordinate
a definitive collection of drills and techniques through working
with other coaches, elite swimmers, and during the day-to-day
coaching of his squad. By putting this information together
in any easy-to-use and visually stimulating format, Paul realized
that he could help improve the knowledge and understanding of
not just his own swimmers and triathletes, but other coaches
too.
