SS Rottnest Channel Swim Program

prepare right for a great crossing!

The Rotto Program

It's here... finally! Our very own, unique, Rottnest Channel Swim Squad Template for Rottnest Solo, Duo and Team swimmers, totally FREE for you to download: here.

Want to know how far you should be swimming in your lead-up to this great race? How you should be structuring your weeks with respect to volume and specific focus? Which races from the Open Water Swim Calendar should you be targeting? How many sessions would be best advised for you to complete per week? It's all there!

The aim of the Rottnest Squad Template is to give you a simple baseline program for what to do and when to get the most out of your training. It doesn't provide specific individual training session details (don't worry about these, Paul has got it all covered within your main squad sessions).

Download the Squad Template here:

For the key weekly sessions (i.e. Friday afternoon, Saturday / Sunday morning) an email will be sent out once per week advising you of this. To receive this simple email (separate to our Squad Blog) please email Paul (swimsmooth@me.com) and request: "Add me to your Rottnest Squad list please!"

the biggest rotto squad?

What awaits on this day?

Swim Smooth's Head Coach Paul Newsome has been writing squad and individual training programs for this great event for a huge variety of swimmers for the past 8 years and has himself completed three Duo swims and two very successful Solo swims in 2009 and 2011, where he placed 6th male overall in a time of 5h24m and 5h23m respectively. In September 2011 Paul also completed a crossing of the English Channel Swim in atrocious conditions (see: http://www.feelforthewater.com/2011/09/pauls-report-what-it-really-takes-to.html) and to date has built up a squad of over 70 Solo swimmers, 30 Duo swimmers and 50+ Team swimmers. This arguably makes Swim Smooth Perth probably the biggest and most comprehensive Rottnest Swim training group in Western Australia with a massive support network and a huge range of specific sessions to tap into.

Paul says: "This season our Rottnest Squad will be bigger and better than ever, so there's no better time to join in and come and train with us. We offer a variety of training sessions throughout the week, with some of the more specific ones being totally free of charge. If you're doing a Solo or Duo this year and are keen to be kept up to date with our specific Rottnest Squad sessions in the pool and open water, then please drop me an email (swimsmooth@me.com) titled "Add me to your Rottnest Squad list please!" and I'll do just that."
